Hoco puts up more vibrant billboard

There is new advertising covering where Graham had posted back in 2005 about this same billboard. It was dedicated to the Movieland Wax museum on Stanley Avenue, but was starting to become very sun faded. They have now changed it to represent the Niagara Skywheel on Clifton Hill and it really stands out.

  1. You guys seriously need to give downtown some attention, there is stuff happening down there that’s good for tourism and the city.

Always posting about the chain hotels and chain stores and how they’re changing their wallpaper is boring and does nothing for the area.

  2. Well actually, Graham doesn’t NEED to do anything. It’s his blog and he can post whatever he wants, and visitors can comment on pretty much whatever they like. This is not an ‘official’ tourism site, just plain folks talking about the city. If it’s not to your liking, don’t visit.

  3. Niagara Lives, I realize there is always something new going in around the city including the downtown. The reason I don’t personally post about the downtown is the same reason I don’t take pictures all over the city anymore and post them on my old site. It is just to expensive to drive all over and take pictures with no return involved, myself and Graham do this as a hobby not for the glory or money. However I will venture to the downtown more often, because I believe it has a bright future in the tourism sector.

  4. I would love to see some downtown stuff on this blog, but whatever Graham and Lonny can put into this is more than we can ask for.

I try and follow downtown development online or on facebook, where there is a group who does a fantastic job btw.

    1. yeah your right about The Bank Lounge, my friends dad is the owner so i get all the updates, they where supposed to open a while ago but they had some difficulties like the fire department did not like the way they had the inside set up (fire exit reasons) and they could not get a hold of a liqour license until just recently. But they are supposed ot be opening soon and its supposed to be great.

      1. You know, as much as we hope all businesses that open are successful and a boost to our economy I’m not sure that the Main and Ferry area of N.F would be my first choice to open an upscale bar with a patio. The area has been depressed for some time, although I’m sure the street traffic entering the pawn shops, tattoo parlours and not to mention the cars who circle the block looking for other forms of entertainment will be a topic of discussion for any patio seated people watchers.

Perhaps this business will start an upswing trend for the area though and I do wish them all the best.

  5. Nice new club is going in the old bank at the corner of Lundys Lane & Main St infact I think it’s called “The Bank Lounge” they are currently building an outdoor patio right on the lane!

I’m also very interested in downtown but nothing much going on there at the moment seems everything is stalled other than the new microbreweries going in which is cool!

    1. It will be interesting to see if that new club succeeds. There have been others there, but they seem to only last one tourist season.

  6. Out of curiosity I have gone to NF for many years but never understood what do they consider to be downtown Niagara Falls?

  7. Lisa, downtown is Queen St., in the north end of the city, near the train and bus stations. It runs between River Rd. at the east end, to Victoria Ave. at the west. It was once THE shopping district in the city, but in recent years has been nothing but closed up or second hand stores, banks, a couple of restaurants, and a few die-hard businesses. In the past year however, it has begun a complete transformation into an arts and entertainment district. Several art galleries have opened, the old Seneca Theatre is being transformed by the Gypsy Theatre Company into a live venue, Taps Brewery is opening a brew pub, the Buttery Restaurant (with the Henry VIII Feast) is relocating from Niagara on the Lake, and several other cafes and stores have opened. It is still not the most attractive street to drive down, but hopefully that will change as it continues it’s resurrection.

  8. Is Daily Planet consider to be part of the Downtown? The last time I was thier it looked like Wal-Mart came to a small town and everyone closed up. I cant wait to see what it is like now.

  9. Yes, what used to be the Daily Planet ( it has been the Orchid Nightclub for quite a while now) is on Queen St.
As I said, don’t expect any miracles yet if you go, but it is gradually becoming more hospitable.

  10. This site is more and more disappointing all the time. It’s billed as all things Niagara Falls Tourism but we aren’t seeing anything about Niagara Falls downtown. There is a huge change happening there, more than any other place in Niagara Falls and it’s being ignored. Maybe the site should be rebranded all things Fallsview area.

Out of site, out of mind?

    1. Mike, as has been said to others, you have a choice as to whether to visit the site or not. The Niagara Falls Downtown area is not, and will not be for the forseeable future, the reason why people come to Niagara Falls. Just because there are developments doesn’t mean it is something I need/want to cover. There were all sorts of changes at Niagara Square, but those were barely mentioned. The heart of Niagara Falls tourism is still the Clifton Hill and Fallsview areas. I will continue to report on these things as this is where I am most often. When/if the need arises, I’m sure that the downtown area will get sufficient coverage.

  11. StEC that place tried opening where Club Se7en is now as a club I don’t remember, then they tried where the bank is, changed the name to Mantra Ultra Lounge and I guess now it will be the bank lounge. I’ll believe it when I see it.

  12. That sucks to see Daily Planet gone. I got to go see the NF. The last time I was there was in Aug. for the Jessica Simpson conert and took the bus in.

This is a BLOG, you know what a blog is right!? I will make it easy for you both, go to the following link…. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blog

Graham needs only to post whatever he finds interesting because again this is a blog his own personal blog which he also allows Lonny to help with, this is NOT a city owned or run tourism site! Also they do this as a hobby and they do not get paid for it so you can’t expect them to pay for the gas & wear and tear on their personal vehicles and use up their precious time going to every corner of the city on a regular basis!

If you think the downtown area needs more coverage then start your on blog or if you think you can do a better job then again just start your own blog!

    @ Dan M.

Interesting thx for the info… it seems that work is stalled already on the Bank Lounge because the patio they started has now sat the same unfinished state now for over a week but it may be due to the pending liquor license approval.
