Yesterday I received the latest issue of the Clifton Hill Resorts Update newsletter. It is much shorter than usual, and is promoting a couple of packages.

I just spent the past weekend up in the falls. The city was really dead obviously, because of the time of the year. There were however, many hockey tournament players in town. Adventure City looks like crap now, hopefully they are going to be working on that.
We received a 25.00 voucher off Boston Pizza/ Kelsey’s and used it for take out Fri. night. We got two large ultimate pepperoni pizzas, and AFTER the voucher we paid 58.00 (we didn’t order anything else ). I don’t know how these places can justify charging the prices they charge. Its no wonder people complain so much about the area’s prices.
Criminal HOF had 5 dollar admission signs in the window, so hopefully thats a sign of things to come. The casinos were really dead both days, but again its probably due to time of the year.
Nice little trip, but very dissapointed that the prices are so high in the dead of winter. The prices have to chase away so many people from coming, its a real shame what the operators do to themselves.
Ever go to http://www.saveabuck.ca?
They have great coupons. I was curious if you print from your computer if they will honor them? Some of the coupons are too good to be true like buy one get one.
Niagara they has $5 off $25 at Boston Pizza
I was given the 25.00 voucher from our hotel. When the girl at BP told me the total, after I had mentioed we had the coupon, I didn’t think she had added it in. I was wrong she did
niagara, somethings wrong there. I have a BP menu and the price of the large ultimate pepperoni is $25.99 each, so that would make it approximaptly $58.73 with tax for the two pizzas. It seems like they didn’t take off the $25 voucher.
sorry…approximaptly = approximately
They sure did not, and I asked her repeatedly.
So that is where the 58.00 came in. I know that was wrong. I spend A LOT of $$$ with HOCO year round, so thats really dissapointing.
If you have the receipt Niagara then call the hotel. Tell them when you were there and tell them she took the $25 voucher and did not redeem it even though you repeatedly asked. Also Hoco had that trivia contest and never announced a winner. They seem to be getting very sneaky.
I really don’t think HOCO is getting sneaky Lisa. I just think the girl working was just very busy. Its not the end of the world I suppose. I am a little upset because Louise saying the total was 58.00 shows me that I was not wrong in what I remembered being the total. I do not have the receipt
I think the world of HOCO and the way they run the operations they control I think that if every establishment was run like HOCO the falls would be far better off for it. I guess I just had a bad break. AHH well. Ill keep my fingers crossed that you win Lisa!!!
Oh I did not win and it does not matter. The contest was 3-4 months ago and they did not announce a winner in their newsletter. The reasons I saw Hoco is sneaky maybe not intentional is. I made a reservation at Quality like I have 15 years straight. I asked about continential breakfast and they said no but comfort inn did so I asked if I can switch there she said yes. I checked my credit card bill and they charge for both hotels for the same weekend. Then I stayed the following month for the festival of lights and got the $25 certificate and they too did not apply to the bill I complainted and the manager came and got rude so I just left and went and told the hotel. They applied the $25 to my room. And finally was told wireless in lobby and it kept getting booted off. Maybe they are not sneaky but not as good as they have been in the past.
I am going back to the falls this weekend for my b-day and this time I am taking a break. I received a brock hotel overnight package which I believe the hotel is or will be changing names and dinner at Suisha Garden which I have not been to since they were at Maple Leaf Village. I plan on checking out the area to see prices, conditions changes etc. Plotting and planning my trip in July and August. I love NF and Clifton Hill but Hoco just is not as tourist friendly as I have experienced in the past.
Happy Early Birthday Lisa!! All the best!
very true, lisa.
I appreciate that this didn’t turn into a big complaint forum. I don’t want the site to become that.
The following comments aren’t specific to anything Lisa or Niagara said, but I just wanted to share my “philosophy” on what kinds of comments would be appropriate to leave. There are other places on the web where people can discuss the various operations and rate them. If you have an opinion about a place, feel free to let us know your experience, but try not to be too hurtful in what you say. You can be honest, but don’t exaggerate or embellish. There should be no personal attacks. Details should be left in such a way that you wouldn’t be embarrassed to say the same things in front of the people you are complaining about.
If you have a complaint or concern about a location, then your first step should be in contacting the company. If you don’t get a response, feel free to let me know and I’ll see if there is anything I can do. In this case, I’ve let Louise from HOCO know about the concerns and she’s looking into it. I’ve previously heard complaints about the Embassy Suites, but the person didn’t want to post any complaint, so I couldn’t help out in that case.
Certainly, when/if a concern has been resolved, please return and post about the resolution. Too often there are complaints left on sites, and then no one goes back to say how things were resolved and, if appropriate, compliment the company.
I agree Graham, My biggest gripe/complaint about establishments in the region are always going to come down to price issues. I am a local expert over at Tripadvisor for the NF area, and I used to post more than I do now. I stopped posting mostly because I found that when I tried to help out people who were planning a trip, Id often point out just how expensive the region is compared to other tourist destinations; and this was often disputed from local residents on the board who thought I was being too negative.
Im all for people being proud of where they live and defending it with passion, but there also comes a time where you have to be “real” about what you are telling people who plan on visiting the area. In my experience the first thing people say after returning from the falls is “Wow, the falls were beautiful” then the very next thing they say is “everything was soooooo expensive”. Thats just an honest statement from me. Its happened numerous times, and often in the trip reports on that site and others you will see people say the same thing. I understand its a tourist destination, but Im not so sure agree with comparisons to other places like Orlando, Vegas etc… I feel some operators price themselves out of a chance for returning business and sometimes, first time visitors. I love the area as much as anyone who isn’t from there could possibly love it, I want to see it do well.
Even when I was aggravated over the price I paid for the 2 pizza’s I tried to keep in in perspective, HOCO in my opinion is top notch. I had a feeling something wasn’t right, but I also felt that posting here was important since so many people @ this blog LOVE the area. I love when people post trip reports here, and hopefully everyone feels the same way. There are some bad operators in the region, HOCO isn’t one of them.
Last year I emailed HOCO right after a WONDERFUL stay, and I let them know how much I thought they were doing a great job. I haven’t heard anything from Louise yet, but to be honest it isn’t the end of the world what happened. Its not like I want anything out of it. The good far makesup for any bad. I was quick to contact Tripadvisor last year when a disgruntled former HOCO employee posted false bed bug stories on the forum, and had it taken down. The good operators in the falls should be defended!
I agree like you said Graham, everyone who has a bad or good experience should contact establishments directly and let them know. If its somewhere in the middle, then dont do anything.
Orlando is only a popular tourist destination because of its amusement parks
(Universal,Sea World, Walt Disney World, etc.)
Yeah, quite a bit to do in Orlando. You could easily spend a week there and no see/do everything.
Just as a follow up everyone; a very nice rep. from HOCO got in touch with me and corrected the problem in my original post above. HOCO is without question top-notch in my book.
