New ID requirements taking effect to cross border

    From the Niagara Falls Review:

Simply telling a U.S. border officer where you’re from will no longer be sufficient to cross the border later this month as new citizenship rules take effect.

Starting Jan. 31, motorists at all U.S. border crossings will have to produce a driver’s licence and additional proof of citizenship, such as a birth certificate or passport.

Previously, a license and oral declaration of citizenship would suffice.

“We have always had the legal authority to request documentation to prove citizenship,” said Kevin Corsaro, of U.S. Customs and Border Protection.
