Ripley’s Moving Theater closed yesterday

I’m not sure what they were doing…

Niagara Falls State Park winter pictures

A couple of weeks ago I posted that I had been to Niagara Falls State Park and taken some nice pictures of the Falls from the American side. Well, apparently I never posted the pictures. Sorry!

I took 48 pictures and you can see them in the Niagara Falls State Park section of the Niagara Falls Gallery.

As of this posting, that brings the gallery to a total of 1,553 images in 149 categories.

Ripley’s Aquarium architects

Although it is now unlikely that the Ripley’s Aquarium will ever be built, the architects that were involved are B+H Architects.

Their web site has a conceptual drawing of the building and some information on the design:

Apparently they were also involved with the design of the Niagara Fallsview Casino Resort.

Classic Iron Motorcycle Museum leaflet

Last year I posted several times on the opening of the new Classic Iron Motorcycle Museum. It replaced Alien Encounter, and seems to be a success. I’ve scanned their new promotional leaflet and included the text below:

New Falls travel guide put out by Frommer

From the Buffalo News:

This tourist destination has been mentioned in Frommer’s travel guides for several years, but now the travel “bible” has put out a whole book on the area.

Frommer’s Niagara Region Guide Book was launched Wednesday evening at a media event in Niagara-on-the-Lake.

The 240-page book has detailed maps, suggested itineraries and “honest reviews” of hotels, restaurants and tourist sites for the estimated 20 million people who visit the falls every year.

The book includes some hotels, restaurants and tourist sites in Niagara Falls, N.Y., but it is primarily about the Ontario side of the falls, said Betsy Foster, marketing coordinator with Tourism Niagara, based in Thorold, Ont.

Frommer’s has some information on Niagara Falls on their web site as well.

Tim Hortons front

Is it just me or does the Tim Hortons that is being built on Clifton Hill look like a Montana’s?

I’m sure once the signs go up it will look like a Tim Hortons, but it really does remind me of the Montana’s that was built last year.

The wheel of the Niagara SkyWheel

After a week or more of what appeared to be no progress, HOCO (Clifton Hill Resorts) is finally starting to put the wheel of the Niagara SkyWheel into place:

New banners on outside of Classic Iron Motorcycle Museum

Sometime within the last week three banners have been put up on the outside of the Classic Iron Motorcycle Museum:

I think they look very nice. The wall was so plain before. This really grabs your attention.

TV show turns to luck of the draw

From the Niagara Falls Review:

Fans hoping to see Live with Regis & Kelly next month will need a bit of luck and a lot of patience.

On April 30, 3,000 envelopes will be pulled from a giant drum one each for the first 3,000 people who register at the Niagara Fallsview Casino’s Grand Hall.

The catch? Only 750 of the envelopes contain a voucher for tickets to the May 22 taping at Oakes Garden Theatre.

“Since this is a casino property, we’ve decided to use pure luck to determine who gets those tickets,” Niagara Fallsview Casino general manager Steve Wolstenholme said during a media conference Wednesday.

The casino has joined with the city, Niagara Parks Commission, Canadian Tourism Commission and Ontario Ministry of Tourism to bring the New York-based morning show to town, sharing the $700,000 in production costs.

First view of the Falls?

The most direct way to get to the Fallsview Casino from out of town (in Canada, anyway) is to take the 420 highway to Stanley Avenue. Turn right and follow Stanley until you get to Murray Street (often called Murray Hill) and turn left. This is what you will see. If this is your first view of the Falls, it is quite impressive with all the beautiful buildings around:
