    Daycationing Over the Border

    From Forever Young WNY:

The word daycation may be relatively new, but the concept isn’t. It dates back to the early days of railway excursions, when Victorians using Day Tripper tickets would travel to a scenic spot for a day out. This way of travelling is somewhat of a lost art, but it’s a time efficient and less expensive way to make the most of our short summers.

What would your ideal daycation look like? A first-rate theater performance followed by a decadent chocolate creation? Perhaps a forested hike to a stunning waterfall? What about the thrill of big city sports game? Wine tasting? Farmers market? With so many choices waiting over the border (and such a favorable exchange rate), there’s no time like the present to take advantage of what Ontario has to offer this summer.

Drums Along the Waterfront press release

This is getting a little beyond the Niagara Falls area, but it still sounds like an interesting event, so I figured I’d post it.

Yesterday I received the following about Drums Along the Waterfront:

Please see below a press release announcing the 14th annual Drums Along the Waterfront that is scheduled for August 8th at Ralph Wilson Stadium in Western New York and another press release announcing a unique opportunity for drum corps fans; spending the day with the best drum corps in the world, the Blue Devils.

New this year, the internationally acclaimed US Marine Drum and Bugle Corps will travel to WNY and perform a special tribute to veterans and active duty soldiers as part of the show.

This year’s event is by far the best to date, featuring some of the best drum corps groups in the country, including the most decorated and well known corps in the world, the Blue Devils from Concord, California.

The competing drum corps are quite a site to be seen, most averaging more than 150 members of the best drum and bugle corps performers in the world. These performers travel the country every summer via charter buses and living on gym floors, practicing 10 hours a day.

One of the corps will be playing on August 4th at 6ish at Terrapin Point, on the US side of the Niagara Falls, more info on appearance to come.

You can download a PDF of the press releases here.

It sounds neat! If anyone goes to check it out, email me a summary, and I’d be happy to post it.
