More fun for families promised for Clifton Hill

    From the Niagara Falls Review:

Some big changes are coming to Clifton Hill.

Demolition has already begun on the Comfort Inn, a long-time fixture on what is billed as Niagara Falls’ “Street of Fun.”

The site, which was home to a motel for more than 60 years, will be the home of a new Go-Kart Coaster track, according to Joel Noden, director of marketing for HOCO Entertainment & Resorts. HOCO owns several properties on the hill including the Niagara SkyWheel, Dinosaur Adventure Golf and the Great Canadian Midway arcade among other things.

“It’s the signature piece,” Noden said of the Go-Kart attraction that will have riders will spiral up three or four stories high before they race down to a surface track below.

“It’s like a roller coaster,” Noden said.

Red Bull Crashed Ice course taking shape

    From the Niagara Falls Review:

When Mayor Jim Diodati got to the top of the Red Bull Crashed Ice course, he got that churning feeling in his stomach and could only think of one thing: “Imagine going down a roller coaster in skates!”

Lucky for Diodati, he was only taking a tour of the 460-metre-long course, which starts at the Skylon Tower, along Murray St. and into the Niagara Pkwy. near the Edgewaters Tap & Grill.

Organizers of the event — a combination of downhill skiing, hockey and boardercross — took media and local dignitaries for a Wednesday walkthrough of the twisting ice course, which is still under construction.

    Clifton Hill Update survey

Did any of you take the survey that was mentioned in the most recent Clifton Hill Update? They did something similar to this back in October 2007 when they asked people about their thoughts on a Titanic attraction in Niagara Falls (there is no Titanic attraction on Clifton Hill yet). It appears that they are exploring a small roller coaster, a zip line, a go-kart track, and a haunted ship (or something like that).

If you haven’t seen the survey, you can view a PDF I created with screenshots of the questions.

A few Niagara-related items in the Summer 2010 CAA magazine

The other day I received the latest CAA magazine. I’m in the Niagara Region, so there are always local things highlighted in the magazine. I noticed these 3 things in particular. I’m not sure which (if any) of them might have been in other regional editions of the magazine:

    1. The small “Coaster Craving” article doesn’t mention Dragon Mountain at Marineland, but does mention Sky Screamer
    2. I thought the ad for the Fallsview Cascade was interesting, as it doesn’t show the hotel at all.
    3. Thundering Waters is mentioned in the Grip It and Rip It blurb
