    Reshaping Niagara’s scenic parkway

    From the Niagara Gazette:

For many years it served as a battleground of sorts in an at-times bitter community conversation about the value of the roadway.

Today, the parkway formerly known as Robert Moses has been renamed the Niagara Scenic Parkway and substantial portions on both the north and south ends have either been slated for large-scale changes or are already in the process of being reconfigured.

Financial support from Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s Buffalo Billion economic development initiative paved the way for new, multi-million-dollar parkway plans.

    From Buffalo Business First:

After years of wishful thinking, a one-mile stretch of the Robert Moses Parkway leading directly to Niagara Falls may get a makeover that makes it more tourist and pedestrian-friendly.

The Western New York Regional Economic Council has agreed to allocate $10 million from the “Buffalo Billion” to help finance the $15 million project. The remaining $5 million is expected to come from federal dollars secured by Sen. Charles Schumer and Rep. Brian Higgins.

The project, which could get underway next year, will take a portion of the Robert Moses Parkway between John Daly Boulevard and Buffalo Avenue and turn it from a high-speed roadway into a thoroughfare with pedestrian-friendly medians and attractive landscaping.

    From the Niagara Gazette:

Area residents who frequently use the Robert Moses Parkway between Youngstown and Niagara Falls will find their driving habits changed for the next two months due to roadway work.

Starting at noon Tuesday, the parkway will be closed between the Village of Lewiston and Devil’s Hole State Park until mid-November.
