    It wasn’t fatigue or exhaustion that caused Bernadette Miszk to break down as she approached the finish line at the Niagara Falls Women’s Half Marathon, Sunday.

    Nineteen-year-old daughter Julianne stood at the finish line, waiting to place a medal around her mother’s neck…

    More than 1,600 women participated in the half-marathon which wound its way along the Niagara River Parkway and passed by the falls twice before finishing at the Upper Rapids Boulevard parking lot.

    About 280 women completed the new 5k run, including Julianne and her twin sister, Emily.

    A 26-year-old man was rescued early Monday morning after he fell more than 9 metres down the embankment of the Niagara Gorge and was stuck on a ledge.

    Police were called to the gorge, located in the Hiram Street and Niagara River Parkway area, at approximately 5 a.m.

    Torch arrival should attract 3,000 spectators

    More than 3,000 supporters are expected to line the route along the Niagara River Parkway Sunday as the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Torch Relay arrives in Niagara Falls.

    To celebrate the arrival of the flame, the city is hosting a free community event starting at 5:30 p. m. near Table Rock that will include live entertainment, interactive displays and giveaways from Torch Relay sponsors, including Coca-Cola and RBC.

    At approximately 7 p. m., Olympian and Niagara Falls resident Gord Singleton will carry the flame and light a 1.3-metre-high cauldron.
