There’s still No Timetable for Daredevil Nik Wallenda’s Walk over Niagara Falls.

It is scheduled for sometime this summer. State Senator George Maziarz ( R-Newfane) explained that negotiations with TV networks that want to televise the event are what’s holding up the announcement of a date.

    From the Buffalo News:

The date for Nik Wallenda’s tightrope walk across Niagara Falls will be decided in the next two weeks after negotiations with major television networks, Wallenda’s manager said Friday.

Wallenda’s management team is in “very deep discussions” with the networks, which have expressed interest in filming the 1,800-foot walk across the Niagara Gorge and preceding training sessions.

“We’re hoping for a two-hour prime-time special that will essentially star two major outlets: Nik and Niagara Falls,” manager Winston Simone said at a marketing meeting held in Niagara County’s Center for Economic Development.

    From the Niagara Falls Review:

While officials remain relatively tight-lipped about ongoing negotiations for a new people-mover project — which appear to be wrapping up — snippets of information continue to be released, painting a slight picture of how the bus system could operate.

An agreement between the City of Niagara Falls and the Niagara Parks Commission to shuttle tourists through some of its respective properties is now before lawyers.

Officials are careful not to say anything that could jeopardize what has been a decades-old dream for some politicians and tourism industry stakeholders.

But on Wednesday, Niagara Falls Mayor Jim Diodati told The Niagara Falls Review the plan is for the people-mover system to include three routes by 2012, spreading tourists around the city in a “seamless” and “integrated” fashion.

    From the Niagara Falls Review:

A deal that could lead to a new mass-transit system serving the tourism areas could be finalized as early as Friday, the mayor and Niagara Parks Commission manager say.

Mayor Ted Salci is scheduled to meet with Niagara Parks Commission chairwoman Fay Booker and general manager John Kernahan Friday, in a bid to finalize their existing “agreement in principle” to operate a people mover system and cash in on $50-million in available federal and provincial funding.

“Our negotiations are continuing. They’re moving well,” Salci said in an interview. “The agreement is a master agreement with the Niagara Parks Commission outlining the obligations of each party,” the mayor said.
