    Alice Putnam and her two lady friends from Niagara Falls just wanted to have lunch in Lewiston. And then ride up to Old Fort Niagara to visit Alice’s daughter who works in the gift shop there.

    Joyce and Bill Price had walked from Lewiston to Youngstown with their daughter, Rachael, her boyfriend, Chaz Martenstein, and Millie, their baby granddaughter. The family caught the free shuttle in Youngstown and rode it home. Then they planned to have pizza for lunch without worrying about the calories after their six-mile walk.

    An Ohio family found the Discover Niagara Shuttle an easy way to get to Old Fort Niagara so their kids could see the fort. “My birthday is coming up,” said Erin Martin of Hopewell, Ohio, traveling with her husband Lee and their two children, Emma, 13, and Charley, 12. “This is my present,” she said of her family’s vacation to the region.

    Group wants ‘World Weather Center’ in Niagara Falls

    A group pushing for a “World Weather Center” has decided it wants it to be located in Niagara Falls.

    Niagara Falls City Council members may not be too hot on the idea. They’ve been asked to consider contributing $100,000 to the project with a well-known local meteorologist at its helm.

    When the group first appeared before the city council earlier this year, it was uncertain of the ultimate location of its weather center. On Monday, Don Paul, a meteorologist at WKBW Channel 7 news, and his colleagues said they want to see the World Weather Center in the city of Niagara Falls.

    2013 a big year for Niagara Falls Bridge Commission, Lewiston-Queenston Bridge

    The Niagara Falls Bridge Commission will celebrate two milestones this year, the 75th anniversary of its founding and the 50th year of the Lewiston-Queenston Bridge.

    Built in 1962, the Lewiston-Queenston spans 370 feet above the Niagara River and measures 1,600 feet in length. It connects the 1-190 (Niagara Expressway) on the U.S. side with Highway 405 in Ontario. In the overall scheme, it is a vital link between the State Thruway and the Queen Elizabeth Way. To this day, it has the fifth highest volume of commercial traffic between the U.S. and Canada.
