    Festival of Lights opens in Niagara Falls’ Hyde Park

    A drive-through festival of holiday light display was to be switched on, followed by a fireworks show, the evening of Wednesday, Nov. 23 in Hyde Park.

    There were more than 20 displays available Wednesday, but Peter P. Robinson, head of A Hand Up Inc., said the number will soon increase to about 35.

    Holiday Lights of Niagara to open in Hyde Park

    The annual Holiday Lights of Niagara Trail will open tonight in Hyde Park.

    A free kickoff event will be held near Sal Maglie Stadium at 5:30 p.m. and include an appearance by Santa Claus and performances by local dance and choir groups.

    The lighted displays will be illuminated at the conclusion of the kickoff event and will be followed by a fireworks display. The trail, which runs nightly from 5 to 10 through Jan 31, includes displays throughout Hyde Park as well as across the city.

    Several business and civic groups are combining efforts to stage the Holiday Lights of Niagara Trail that will feature more than 60 illuminated displays in Hyde Park and around the city. The event opens Nov. 21 and runs through December.

    In addition, the event organizers said area business owners along Pine Avenue, from Hyde Park Boulevard to Main Street, and along Third Street to the Holiday Market on Old Falls Street, have been urged to decorate their store fronts to create an inviting atmosphere for families.

    Families can now visit the Holiday Lights of the Niagara Trail. The first lighting took place Wednesday night.

    There are 50 displays located throughout Hyde Park in Niagara Falls. There are an additional 10 displays on Pine Avenue, Main Street and the new Holiday Market.

    The Holiday Lights of Niagara Trail is free and open to the public every night from 5-10 p.m. through December 31st.

    Ceremony set Nov. 23 to open Holiday Lights

    The Holiday Lights of Niagara Trail, which has raised more than $120,000 for the United Way of Niagara since 2004, will open for this year’s season with a ceremony at 5 p.m. Nov. 23 in Sal Maglie Stadium.

    Sponsors said there will be more than 50 lighting displays in Hyde Park, with 10 others along Pine Avenue, Main Street and Third Street to the planned Holiday Market on Old Falls Street. Individual businesses are being encouraged to decorate their storefronts in keeping with the holiday lighting theme.
