Make new entertainment centre all-ages: city council

    From the Niagara Falls Review:

A new 7,000-seat entertainment centre, planned to be built adjacent and connected to the gaming floor at the existing Fallsview Casino, should not just cater to adults and gamblers, say city council.

The venue, expected to host national and international-scale concerts, as well as sports and entertainment events, should also be open to younger people who might want to catch certain shows, say local politicians.

“It should be an all-ages venue, not just for those 19 and older,” said Coun. Carolynn Ioannoni. “It should be accessible to teenagers.”

Ioannoni was backed by her council colleagues this week when her motion was approved to “send a strong message” to the company managing the city’s two casinos that the new facility be family-friendly.

Slow times blamed for 45 job cuts at casinos

    From the Niagara Falls Review:

Casino Niagara and Niagara Fallsview Casino Resort cut 45 jobs Tuesday in one of the biggest single-day reductions since the casinos opened.

Three pit managers and 42 table games supervisors were let go, as the casino dealt with what it called “a consistent overstaffing situation.”

“This overstaffing situation was unique to the table games department,” said Art Frank, president of Niagara Casinos, the company that manages the two government-owned casinos in Niagara Falls.

The casinos had more supervisors and pit managers than they needed, due to “limited business growth prospects,” a reconfiguration of the gaming floor and a new scheduling process, casino management said in a one-page statement after The Niagara Falls Review asked about the changes.
