Rock Burger to move from original location, open in Niagara Falls tourist district

    From the Buffalo News:

A little more than three years ago, Rock Burger was born in an unusual spot – the rear of Players Lounge, a no-frills bar at 328 Niagara St. in Niagara Falls. Owner Jason Lizardo’s juicy, decadent stuffed burgers made waves on social media and spurred success out of the small, unorthodox room, paving the way for him to open a second location earlier this year near the Fashion Outlets.

The original Rock Burger, though, was off the beaten path in Niagara Falls. It was more of a destination enticed by social media than one stumbled upon by passing tourists.

This lack of exposure prompted Lizardo’s newest plan: Rock Burger will close at Players in early-to mid September and move to 360 Rainbow Blvd., Niagara Falls, formerly the Parkside Cafe.

Fashion Outlets of Niagara Falls moves forward on $71M expansion

    From the Niagara Gazette:

It was a year of success for Macerich Real Estate Trust and its Town of Niagara-based Fashion Outlets of Niagara Falls, even if the dog days of summer seemed to drag on and on.

The year started and ended in victory for the mall, receiving approval on its request for tax relief in February and its site plan in October. Both served significant roles in pushing the project forward, even when there was little progress completing the necessary state environmental quality review.

In the end, though, everything turned up roses for the shopping hub.

    From the Buffalo News:

Expansion of the Fashion Outlets of Niagara Falls received environmental approval Tuesday as the Town Board approved a number of resolutions that clear the way for construction to begin.

The board, which has been reviewing the site plan and how the expansion will impact traffic, drainage, noise and air quality as well as aesthetics, voted unanimously to allow the work to start. As lead agent in the state environmental quality review process, the board had to substantiate a negative finding on the various impacts.

It’s a strange way to observe ‘Family Day’

    From the Niagara Gazette:

If you were driving anywhere near the border Monday, there’s a chance you observed the traffic lines waiting to cross the international bridges.

It was, of course , the day for U.S. residents to honor their presidents.

Meanwhile, in Ontario, it was a holiday called Family Day.

Canadians seem to have a problem with how to spend their day while Americans can’t agree on how to spell it.

Supposedly the Ontario holiday was designed for families to spend more time together, either at the Fashions Outlets, Military Road, Town of Niagara, or perhaps sitting in the car for more than an hour to pass through customs.

    Canadians Love Deals in WNY

From WKBW Channel 7 in Buffalo:

If you’re anywhere near a local mall these days there’s good chance you’ll spot even more Canadian license plates than usual. That’s because the Canadian dollar has grown stronger and now goes further at U.S. Stores.

Better selection and lower taxes on this side of the border have long drawn Canadians. “We’re saving a lot more because the taxes are lower,” says Marianne Bolonga of Niagara Falls, Ontario who was shopping with a friend on Wednesday at the Fashion Outlets of Niagara Falls, NY.

“Pretty much you can’t get the brands back in Canada so just better to come over here I guess,” says Blair Fontana, a Canadian shopping for clothes at the Fashion Outlets.

    From the Buffalo News:

The Fashion Outlets of Niagara Falls in the Town of Niagara is making room for three new stores and bringing its interior to 100 percent occupancy.

Both denim retailer Levi’s and trendy women’s store Charlotte Russe are slated to open by spring. A BCBG outlet, selling discounted women’s clothing from designer Max Azria, is scheduled to be open in time for the mall’s Midnight Madness party, which kicks off on Black Friday, the day after Thanksgiving, to usher in the holiday shopping season.

The Levi’s outlet of about 3,900 square feet will be located across from Saks Off Fifth. Calendar Club, a seasonal specialty store, now occupies the space under a temporary lease.
