    The Ontario Power Generation Winter Festival of Lights has received a top award by the International Festivals & Events Association.

    The local event was awarded the IFEA pinnacle award for best festival mobile application during the association’s annual convention in Arizona.

    Consultant hired to study feasibility of events center in Niagara Falls

    A Minneapolis consulting firm, Conventions, Sports & Leisure International, has been hired to study the feasibility of a sports and events facility for the City of Niagara Falls.

    The consultant has been directed to deliver the report by Oct. 1, according to Samuel M. Ferraro, Niagara County economic development commissioner. The $113,000 cost will be split equally among the county, city and state.

    A premier international tourism conference could bring an extra $3 million to the Niagara Falls economy if the city is chosen to play host to the 39th annual Rendez-vous Canada convention in 2015.

    And while negotiations are still ongoing, all that is left to do is dot the I’s and cross the T’s on a contract said Greg Klassen, vice-president of marketing for the Canadian Tourism Commission, the organization responsible for running the multiple-day conference each year.
