This isn’t anything important, but I thought it was kind of funny. This is a sign that was posted on the gate of the new parking lot on Clark Avenue. I had no idea there was a salt shortage! What to do, what to do?!
Don’t worry, I took this picture a few days ago, and when I was by yesterday, the sign was gone. Crisis averted!

As a side note, the gate used to have markings on it that indicated that it was a Fallsview Casino parking lot. As you can see by the picture, it no longer shows that. I wonder if that means anything…
For some time now, Canadian Niagara Hotels has had approval from the city for a hotel on a small piece of property by the Jolley Cut. The other day I was walking along Robinson Street, and there is some parking between Robinson Street and Murray Street that has big billboards for the Canadian Niagara Hotels properties (hotels, restaurants and attractions). I always assumed the property was owned by them.

There is now a sign on the property announcing a city meeting to approve the use of that space as parking for a hotel that will be at 5392 Robinson St.

I pulled up maps from both Google and Microsoft, but it is hard to see exactly where that property is. The City of Niagara Falls site lists the site on their Proposed and New Development Projects page, and they have a nice map that shows the lot:

Sure enough, when I was by the lot the other day, they have a copy of that same sign. The lot is currently being used as a parking lot.

Does this indicate that Canadian Niagara Hotels is going to start building soon?
As Fallsview mentioned in a previous comment, the large parking lot on Clark Ave appears to be run (and probably owned) by the Fallsview Casino.

I’ve never seen more than 1 or 2 cars in the lot at the same time. There doesn’t seem to be a way to pay going in, so perhaps it is only for card holders of some kind. I’ve emailed their “concierge” asking if I can park there. We’ll see what they say…
I can’t believe they did all that work just to make it into a parking lot!

It’s hard to believe there is more money in running a parking lot than in running a motel. This is where the Maple Leaf Motel used to be.
