For Immediate Release – Ancient Egypt comes to Niagara Falls

I know I’m way late for the opening of this exhibit, but it is on until January…

This is a press release I recently received:

September 6, 2013                                                                 For Immediate Release

Ancient Egypt comes to Niagara Falls

The Ontario Power Generation Gallery at the Niagara Falls History Museum (5810 Ferry Street) will be home to the Royal Ontario Museum exhibition “Egypt, The Gift of the Nile”. Members of the media are welcome to see the new exhibit on September 11 before the official public opening on September 12, 2013. This travelling exhibit will be on display until January 5, 2014.  The Media is invited to attend the official opening of the exhibition on September 11th at 4pm.  Please RSVP.

Egypt, Gift of the Nile will allow visitors to explore an ancient civilization that flourished for thousands of years. The Nile River Valley of 5,000 years ago was the birthplace of a remarkable civilization. Protected from foreign invasion by vast deserts and sustained by fertile soil along the river, the ancient Egyptians developed from a simple agricultural community into a sophisticated society. Under a system of divine kingship, this Egyptian civilization lasted thousands of years and contributed strongly to the later cultures of the Mediterranean and Europe.

This exhibition allows one to travel to ancient Egypt and learn about jewelery, perfume, make-up, food, family life, funerary religion and the afterlife.

The Museum has also added hands-on stations for visitors to write their name in hieroglyphics, make a mini pyramid and an Egyptian headdress.

For the duration of the exhibition run, school programmes exploring the importance this civilization will be offered to local schools.

Museum Curator, Suzanne Moase says, “We are excited to show visitors different aspects of the human experience.  Egypt has a special place in the minds of many people and this exhibition will provide people with a connection to this very special time.”

Be sure to come see the new exhibit this fall in the OPG Gallery and visit www.niagarafallsmuseums.ca for details on upcoming Thursday night activities.
