Just how old is the Ontario Provincial Police?<\/p>\n

When they started out, they didn\u2019t take mug shots at a police station – they had to bring suspects to a professional photo studio.<\/p>\n

They started in 1909 with a superintendent, five inspectors and 45 constables \u2026 covering an entire province.<\/p>\n

It took a year just to get uniforms.<\/p>\n

Today, the OPP is one of North America\u2019s largest police forces with 5,900 uniformed officers (including part-time and cadets), 2,600 civilian employees and 850 auxiliary members.<\/p>\n

A year-long celebration to mark the force\u2019s 100th anniversary kicked off Saturday at Queen Victoria Park in Niagara Falls.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
