{"id":6677,"date":"2009-06-04T08:43:20","date_gmt":"2009-06-04T12:43:20","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/accessniagara.com\/blog\/?p=6677"},"modified":"2009-06-04T08:43:20","modified_gmt":"2009-06-04T12:43:20","slug":"opp-mark-100-years-with-niagara-falls-showcase","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/accessniagara.com\/blog\/2009\/06\/04\/opp-mark-100-years-with-niagara-falls-showcase\/","title":{"rendered":"OPP mark 100 years with Niagara Falls showcase"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>From the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.niagarafallsreview.ca\/ArticleDisplay.aspx?e=1591895\">Niagara Falls Review<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Just how old is the Ontario Provincial Police?<\/p>\n<p>When they started out, they didn\u2019t take mug shots at a police station &#8211; they had to bring suspects to a professional photo studio.<\/p>\n<p>They started in 1909 with a superintendent, five inspectors and 45 constables \u2026 covering an entire province.<\/p>\n<p>It took a year just to get uniforms.<\/p>\n<p>Today, the OPP is one of North America\u2019s largest police forces with 5,900 uniformed officers (including part-time and cadets), 2,600 civilian employees and 850 auxiliary members.<\/p>\n<p>A year-long celebration to mark the force\u2019s 100th anniversary kicked off Saturday at Queen Victoria Park in Niagara Falls.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>I was walking around Saturday (before seeing the article) and noticed all of the OPP around.
