As a final note to my posts about the Skylon Tower<\/a> (see Niagara’s most famous landmark … next to the Falls<\/em><\/a> and Skylon Tower Facts<\/em><\/a>), I was in contact with Dave Gillies, Director of Sales. He answered a few questions for me:<\/p>\n What was the original purpose of the building (communications, tourism, or both)?<\/p>\n The original propose for use was as an exhibit hall with an observation deck and dining room at the top, so the answer is both.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n How much does it “sway”?<\/p>\n It is designed to sway 18\u00c3\u00af\u00c2\u00bf\u00c2\u00bd from centre.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n Are base-jumpers<\/a> or suicides a problem?<\/p>\n No, the outer observation deck is covered.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n Have there been any movies filmed in the tower?<\/p>\n One of the scenes from Superman<\/a> and many commercials were filmed here along with footage used in other movies.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n When did the Yerich family<\/a> take over?<\/p>\n 1986<\/p><\/blockquote>\n What other businesses does the parent company own\/operate in the area?<\/p>\n Holiday Inn by the Falls<\/a>, Cascade Inn<\/a>, Pyramid Place, Wolfgang Puck<\/a>, Cafe Tu Tu Tango<\/a>.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n How many people go up the tower each year?<\/p>\n About 1 million go up. Close to 3 million visit the Tower.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n How did the tower get involved with Jay Cochrane<\/a>?<\/p>\n Jay has wanted to do a walk from the Tower for a long time. The Casino stepped in and sponsored the walk.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n Do you have to pay for parking?<\/p>\n Yes<\/p><\/blockquote>\n Can you give us any insight into the future development plans? I know that there is approval for hotels.<\/p>\n
