{"id":18113,"date":"2016-11-24T11:00:31","date_gmt":"2016-11-24T16:00:31","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/accessniagara.com\/blog\/?p=18113"},"modified":"2016-11-24T12:02:25","modified_gmt":"2016-11-24T17:02:25","slug":"no-tv-for-falls-new-years-eve-once-again","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/accessniagara.com\/blog\/2016\/11\/24\/no-tv-for-falls-new-years-eve-once-again\/","title":{"rendered":"No TV for Falls New Year\u2019s Eve once again"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>From <a href=\"http:\/\/www.niagarathisweek.com\/whatson-story\/6974220-no-tv-for-falls-new-year-s-eve-once-again\/\">Niagara This Week<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Despite interest from a pair of broadcast outlets to televise the annual New Year\u2019s Eve celebration, no cameras will be rolling when a variety of musical acts hit the stage at Queen Victoria Park on Dec. 31.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere was interest from two broadcasters,\u201d Mayor Jim Diodati said. \u201cThe discussions were going quite well, but in the end they had to make a financial decision.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He said to mount a show like the one featuring Keith Urban to close out 2014 would cost between $2 and $3 million to produce, and the funds simply aren\u2019t there.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCertain acts need a certain level of production,\u201d Diodati said. \u201cTalent is not cheap.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Tourism operators were reluctant to add any more money to the pot, Diodati said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI empathize with the tourism operators,\u201d he said. \u201cOn New Year\u2019s Eve they\u2019re already full. You can\u2019t create more rooms.
