{"id":16623,"date":"2014-02-11T15:00:45","date_gmt":"2014-02-11T20:00:45","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/accessniagara.com\/blog\/?p=16623"},"modified":"2014-02-07T12:36:52","modified_gmt":"2014-02-07T17:36:52","slug":"for-immediate-release-science-fiction-film-humanized-film-series-at-the-niagara-falls-history-museum","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/accessniagara.com\/blog\/2014\/02\/11\/for-immediate-release-science-fiction-film-humanized-film-series-at-the-niagara-falls-history-museum\/","title":{"rendered":"For Immediate Release &#8211; Science Fiction Film Humanized &#8211; Film Series at the Niagara Falls History Museum"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I received the following press release from the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.niagarafallsmuseums.ca\/\">Niagara Falls Museum<\/a>recently:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>January 27, 2014<\/p>\n<p>For Immediate Release<\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><b><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Science Fiction Film Humanized \u2013 Bold Films on the Big Screen<\/span><\/b><b>\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n<p>The Niagara Falls Museums is pleased to announce the next film series presented at the Niagara Falls History Museum as part of @ the Museum Thursday Night.<\/p>\n<p>This series complements our current exhibition on SPACE in the OPG Gallery, which features a Starlab, a moon rock from NASA and images of Niagara Falls at night.\u00a0 With that influence in mind, Joan Nicks, series programmer, has put together a series that examines the human condition within the context of space and the future.\u00a0 All films start at 7pm sharp and will be introduced by film critic and programmer Joan Nicks.<\/p>\n<p>Films in the series include stars such as Harrison Ford, George Clooney and Kevin Spacey.\u00a0 The series starts on <b>February 6<\/b> with <b>Blade Runner<\/b> (1982, 117 minutes, Rated 14A).\u00a0 This film is one of the coolest and visually inventive, post-modern films ever.\u00a0 Other films in the series include missions to a space station to investigate what went wrong with the crew, the emptiness of space and a wry comic adventure.<\/p>\n<p>The film series schedule is;<\/p>\n<p>February 6 \u2013 <b>Blade Runner<br \/>\n<\/b>February 20 \u2013 <b>Solaris<br \/>\n<\/b>March 6\u00a0 \u2013 <b>Moon<br \/>\n<\/b>March 20 \u2013 <b>The Hitchhiker\u2019s Guide to the Galaxy<br \/>\n<\/b>April 3<b> &#8211; TBA<\/b><\/p>\n<p>According to Prof. Nicks, \u201cGeorges M\u00e9li\u00e8s\u2019 whimsical film, A Trip to the Moon (1902), launched the science-fiction film.
