I was soaked. And for one last time, I loved every second of it.<\/p>\n<p>It was easy to take the Maid of the Mist for granted over the years, never realizing how special it really was. People who\u2019ve lived here all their lives have never ridden it, assuming it was just another tourist rip-off. Just another postcard.<\/p>\n<p>It wasn\u2019t. It never was. The Maid was different. She was history and nature. She was scary and spectacular. When the ride comes to its apex, when you\u2019re looking up at the Horseshoe Falls, when you\u2019re being drenched by the Niagara River \u2026 you feel lost in time.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLadies and gentlemen,\u201d the recorded announcer says, \u201cthis is Niagara Falls.\u201d No cotton candy or waffles down here. No ferris wheels. Just pure, raw power. This is why they\u2019ve come here for centuries. Since I\u2019ve lived here, visiting friends and relatives always ask what they should see. The answer never changed: Don\u2019t miss the Maid of the Mist.<\/p>\n<p>It was as good as it gets.
