{"id":16360,"date":"2013-08-07T13:00:52","date_gmt":"2013-08-07T17:00:52","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/accessniagara.com\/blog\/?p=16360"},"modified":"2013-08-06T13:59:23","modified_gmt":"2013-08-06T17:59:23","slug":"clifton-hill-museum-founder-dies","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/accessniagara.com\/blog\/2013\/08\/07\/clifton-hill-museum-founder-dies\/","title":{"rendered":"Clifton Hill museum founder dies"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>From the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.stcatharinesstandard.ca\/2013\/07\/31\/biz-beat-clifton-hill-museum-founder-dies\">St Catharines Standard<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Believe it or not, there was a time Clifton Hill wasn\u2019t filled with museums, arcades, shops and houses of horror.<\/p>\n<p>One man, Alec Rigby, helped pave the way for the hill to become Niagara Falls\u2019 main tourist destination when he brought the Ripley\u2019s Believe It or Not museum to the south side of the street.<\/p>\n<p>On July 24, Rigby, a former Niagara resident and well-known businessman born in St. Catharines, passed away at 85.<\/p>\n<p>He became a partner of the Ripley\u2019s Believe it or Not franchise in 1963 and opened the Niagara Falls \u201codditorium\u201d that same year.
