{"id":10282,"date":"2011-09-29T15:00:58","date_gmt":"2011-09-29T19:00:58","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/accessniagara.com\/blog\/?p=10282"},"modified":"2014-02-15T15:03:03","modified_gmt":"2014-02-15T20:03:03","slug":"political-parties-not-ignoring-tourism-say-candidates","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/accessniagara.com\/blog\/2011\/09\/29\/political-parties-not-ignoring-tourism-say-candidates\/","title":{"rendered":"Political parties not ignoring tourism, say candidates"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>From the Niagara Falls Review:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Tourism may not be as prominent an issue in this provincial election as it was in 2007.<\/p>\n<p>But candidates representing the three major parties looking to form government after Oct. 6 are adamant they&#8217;re not overlooking an industry they say is so vital to Niagara&#8217;s economy.<\/p>\n<p>During the provincial election four years ago, tourism had its own section in the Liberal, Progressive Conservative and New Democratic platforms.<\/p>\n<p>For example, then PC leader John Tory promised more money for marketing.<\/p>\n<p>Liberal Premier Dalton McGuinty pledged a &#8220;comprehensive competitiveness study,&#8221; which led to a $4-million report, which in turn led to the creation of regional tourism organizations tasked to make Ontario&#8217;s tourism industry more competitive with other destinations around the world.<\/p>\n<p>While there were specific promises for tourism in 2007, this time around, there are few.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>From the Niagara Falls Review: Tourism may not be as prominent an issue in this provincial election as it was in 2007.
