Travel web site Trifter has an posting about how to get deals in Niagara Falls:
This isn’t penny pinching, its saving enough where you need to so you can have a wonderful, enjoyable vacation in the Canadian City of Love, Niagara Falls.
Whether it is visiting off-season in the wintertime, or in the peak of the summer, in Niagara Falls Ontario, there is always a deal to be found; you just have to look for it. If you do a little bit of research before heading out on the road, you will find hotels, attractions, and restaurants that cater right to your needs.
Someone with a Blogger blog has posted (with some nice pictures) about a recent vacation:
We bundled everyone up and headed out to view the town. Our hotel was in the Clifton Hill area which is very touristy with tons of lights and attractions.
…
The really neat thing….on the way home from dropping Carl off Val says to me…that was the BEST vacation I’ve ever had. Considering what she’d been through that day and she’d been on Carrie’s Make a Wish trip to Florida/Orlando for 10 days….that’s an awesome statement. Money well spent IMO.
I’m sure you are all familiar with the various satellite image services out there. I’ve used Google Maps before on the blog. Microsoft has Virtual Earth. There are also other sites out there. The problem is, you usually need to load each site and then search separately on each site for locations. If you visit FlashEarth.com you will find a site that lets you easily switch between the different mappings services.

Looking at this screen capture (which isn’t the best since it is so small), you can see a picture of Niagara Falls. The bottom right corner has a search field. The top right corner has a slider where you can zoom in and out. The top left corner contains a list of the different mapping services. This is the cool part. This picture was from Google Maps. All you have to do is click on Microsoft Virtual Earth and the exact same location will be loaded from that site. You don’t have to navigate away to the site. Just click on the different service and it will load in the same window. This lets you easily compare the maps and choose the one that has the best view.
So, other than the Niagara Falls picture above, I checked out the Niagara SkyWheel. I usually use Google Maps, and as you can see, they are still showing the old Golden Griddle.

But using FlashEarth, you can easily switch to Microsoft Virtual Earth, and you can see that they obviously have more up-to-date satellite images. The SkyWheel is there. Cool!

The OFN Community (Ontario’s Fishing Forum) has a posting asking what you did on Family Day. The first respondent came to Niagara Falls:
My wife, daughter and I headed into Toronto to the ROM. The line-up was unbelievable so we left there and drove to Niagara Falls.
We hit the Aviary and took in the sights and sounds of Clifton Hill for a few hours.
Topped it all off with a feed of wings and pizza at a local favorite.
Great day spending time with my family.
I guess they were some of the people around on the weekend.
Someone with a Blogger blog posted about their honeymoon:
Leonard and I went to Niagara Falls for our honeymoon. It was my idea because we really had no idea what to do, didn’t want to be gone for very long (his vacation time was pretty much used up), and didn’t want to part with a whole lot of $$. So, I went to the travel agent–it was “back in the day”–and looked around for long weekend vacations. I found a package that included a train from Windsor,Ont (We live right across the river) to Niagara, with hotel included. So, I booked it.
Canadian Driver magazine has an interesting article about cool motel signs:
For many people, old motel signs from the mid-twentieth century are nothing more than clutter at the side of the road. Typically falling into disrepair, most see them as garish, kitchy, cartoon-like contraptions that promise far more than their establishments ever delivered. Junk, in other words.
But not me. These cheerful roadside beacons - the few that are left - were quite literally signs of the times. They’re a part of the Canadian historical landscape, recalling an era when a journey in your car was the most modern way to travel; an adventure to be eagerly anticipated and thoroughly savoured.
The article has pictures and features 3 motels from Niagara Falls.
I received an email the other day from Philip DiMartino, the operator of the former NiagaraFrontier.net web site.
Graham, my new website is up and running it is located at http://niagaraiswonder.com
I don’t use a mailing list any more. I use the toolbar located on the site which has a message system built in.
He asked that I mention it, so consider it mentioned.
I don’t know if this is a legitimate blog or not, but a Blogger blog has posted some thing you don’t want to miss in Niagara Falls:
Whether going on your honeymoon or just looking for a weekend getaway, Niagara Falls in Ontario Canada is a great vacation spot. From the falls to the casinos, there’s a lot to do in only a few days. Here are some of the more popular attractions you won’t want to miss out on.
TravelPod has a posting about someone’s recent trip to Niagara Falls:
Today we got up early to take Chris to Niagara Falls since he has never been there.
We had a leisurely breakfast and then parked at the Casino (it’s really cheap there, especially if you are a casino member, it’s free to join, and then you usually get free parking)
By the way, another place for free parking is in the Comfort Inn at the top of Clifton Hill. Just park there, and tell the parking attendant you are going to Rumours nightclub/restaurant, then you’re good for the whole day.
