Yesterday I mentioned that there was some filming going on. It didn’t appear that they had anything setup, but there was lots of equipment around. Today they are actually filming something in the courtyard area between Boston Pizza, Tim Hortons and the Niagara SkyWheel. It appears to be some sort of Bollywood film. There was a girl singing (lipsyncing) and while I was there they did the same thing 4 or 5 times.

There was a small crowd gathered around

The girl on the left is the one who was singing/lipsyncing

The “backup band” pretended to play instruments

The director was sitting a bit away and watching it on a display
I’m not sure what it was for, but there was some filming going on yesterday on Clifton Hill. When I was by, there was a bunch of people and equipment outside Boston Pizza and by the concessions underneath Boston Pizza (Spuds and Sweets & Treats).

Most of the people standing around seemed to be of middle-eastern descent (Indian, Pakistani, etc). I don’t know where they were from or what they were filming.
I’m not even sure of how I came across this, but last night I was reading something on the Wired web site from 1997. The article was about the improved sounds in the “Special Edition” versions of the original Star Wars movies. Ben Burtt, the sound designer from the original trilogy also worked on the sound of the Special Edition. He said this:
“George wanted sounds that would be familiar from other areas of experience, but not recognizable,” Burtt told Wired News. The sound of Darth Vader using the Force that rumbles out of THX-certified subwoofers, for instance, is older than Vader himself, Burtt says.
“I made a sound for a student screening back at USC [the University of Southern California]. This was in the days of Sensurround,” remembers Burtt. “I recorded Niagara Falls, enhanced the sound, and played it through the bass speakers. We called it ‘Infernaround.’”
According to the Star Wars web site, it seems that the sound of Niagara Falls was also used for the “low rumble of the very first Star Destroyer we see on screen.”
I don’t know if any of you have seen the “I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry” movie (I haven’t), but apparently there is a shot of Clifton Hill and Niagara Falls in the movie as the two main characters come here to get “married”.

Some of you may recall that there was some filming being done in Niagara Falls for footage that would be used in Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End. I posted about it a couple of times in October of last year. As far as I know, the movie doesn’t have anything to do with Niagara Falls, but they were shooting footage of a waterfall. I haven’t seen the movie. Has anyone out there seen it? Did you notice any scenes that may have been from Niagara Falls?
From the Niagara Falls Review:
Like a pirate in the night, a film crew for the third “Pirates of the Caribbean” movie sneaked in and out of town this week.
Autograph hounds needn’t fret - stars Johnny Depp, Kiera Knightley and Orlando Bloom weren’t among them. Instead, Walt Disney Studios shot footage of the Horseshoe Falls using helicopters and a high-tech crane for scenes in which the actors will be superimposed upon later.
Both sides of the border were utilized.
Filming started Monday at Terrapin Point in Niagara Falls, N.Y., eventually moving to Table Rock on the Canadian side Wednesday.
Niagara Parks Commission public relations manager Sarah Wood said the crew used the same complex Strada crane that was used to film the IMAX movie “Niagara: Miracles, Myths and Magic” in the mid 1980s, which is still screened at the Niagara Falls IMAX Theatre.
From Crazy4Cinema:
The only reason NIAGARA is still around today is because it stars the luminous Marilyn Monroe. This was one of her first major roles and she makes the most of it. Not that there’s any character development or even a decent, script, but, for whatever reasons magic happens between an individual and the camera, you can’t take your eyes off her.
I’ve written extensively about this move in the past:
From the Niagara Falls Review:
Hundreds of tourists didn’t mind getting soaked at Table Rock Thursday for a glimpse of Hollywood at work.
A large section of the wet and windy landmark was cordoned off for filming of Camille, a supernatural-themed love story starring Sienna Miller and James Franco. The scene being shot occurs near the end of the film, as Franco - playing an ex-con on an ill-fated honeymoon in Niagara Falls - is fired upon by police.
Most onlookers didn’t know the movie, but recognized Franco: “That’s the guy from Spider-Man,” more than a few blurted.
My kids love VeggieTales. For those who don’t know, they are cartoon vegetables. They are funny, and also teach good lessons in each show/movie/episode. One of the more recent videos we have is called Minnesota Cuke and the Search for Samson’s Hairbrush
. It’s similar to Indiana Jones and stars the cucumber Larry.
Anyway, the video starts with someone from the New York Parks & Recreation Department explaining what the problem is:
Parks rep: We at the NYP&RD believe that a rogue Canadian group of barrel makers have launched an attempt to take both sides of Niagara Falls.
Larry the cucumber: Both sides? But they have the best side already.
So true!
As they were talking, the map they were using to see the location was show on screen. The zoomed out map shows the CN Tower in Toronto, the waterfalls at Niagara Falls, and a large buffalo at Buffalo:

The zoomed in map shows someone is going over the Falls in a barrel:
