The Continental connection

From Niagara This Week:

When Jesse McCracken set out to create a documentary film on motel culture in Niagara Falls, he found himself on the doorstep of the Continental Motel on Ferry Street, expecting another interview discussing the decline in the number of the mom-and-pop type of inns that were once a booming part of the honeymoon capital’s tourism economy.

McCracken’s initial interest in Niagara Falls motels came from family visits to the city when he was growing up. But, he returned with the idea of making a documentary about what was an industry in decline.

“I wanted to do a movie about what I was seeing in Niagara Falls over the years when I went there vacationing with my family,” says McCracken, who grew up in Markdale, Ont., near Owen Sound.
