Niagara Falls fireworks

From CHCH (includes video of the fireworks):

The May long weekend is one of the biggest days for fireworks. Down in Niagara, one man is responsible for creating Canada’s longest running series which kicks off Friday, the first of 70 shows.

For the past 18 years, David Whysall has been the mastermind behind the fireworks series at Niagara Falls. Whysall is a chemist by trade and worked with the British space program early in his career. He moved to Canada in the early 80’s and worked with Hands Fireworks, Canada’s oldest manufacturer of commercial fireworks.

  1. OK so I don’t know if this is the place I should say how disappointed I am in the firework display for Canada’s 150th Birthday over the Falls. I was there listening to all the fireworks going off in Chippawa and Niagara-On-the-Lake. Wishing I was there and feeling like someone just sucked the joy out of me. I was so looking forward to something really spectacular. Thinking what just happened did they have technical issues or what. :/

    1. Hi Donna, I didn’t see the fireworks, so I can’t comment on them. I didn’t see any news stories about anything in the week or two leading up to Canada Day, so I assume they were just the regular fireworks that they normally show.

    2. Hi Donna. I felt the same way, as did my teen, who surprisingly came along just for the fireworks. I also wondered if there had been a glitch. Mainly because I had popped down one Friday in early June and the show was spectacular. Maybe my expectations were too high?

      1. Looks like there was indeed a problem with the fireworks. NPC posted a message on their Facebook page:

We apologize to our visitors who came to celebrate Canada Day with us last night for our extended fireworks display. Due to an electrical malfunction, the show ended earlier than intended.
We will be announcing an extended show in the near future, but a regular fireworks display is planned again for this evening at 10 p.m.
We apologize again to our visitors who were disappointed by last night’s shortened display.
