WFOL sees significant increase in vehicle traffic, donations

From the Niagara Falls Review:

The Winter Festival of Lights will be heading into its 35th season riding high.

That’s because the 34th edition, which concludes Tuesday, has seen increases across the board.

Tina Myers, the event’s executive director, said officials have seen a 12 per cent increase in vehicle traffic and a 17 per cent spike in donations at Dufferin Islands.

“As of Jan. 22, we were at 67,596 cars,” she said.

“We easily get 1,000 during the week and then 1,000 on a Saturday, so we could hit 70,000, it is possible. There’s a lot more that come to the festival as a whole as well.”

The festival is also popular for tour buses, as 440 have been through the park — compared to 310 last season.

“It has been fantastic. We can’t believe how high the numbers are,” said Myers.
