Outdoor skating rink a hit with community

I know this isn’t directly related to Niagara Falls, but I posted about it before, so I figured I’d post this follow-up:

From Niagara This Week:

The outdoor skating rink at Fort George is turning out to be a real hot spot.

Since being opened in partnership by Vintage Hotels and Parks Canada last month the skating rink has welcomed thousands of people as of the end of 2016 — and that was without the hundreds who took the time to hit the ice on New Year’s Day on Sunday. The rink was packed with skaters, some with families, and others, such as Bryon Mikkelson, on their own.

Mikkelson, of Welland, made an impromptu visit to the rink on Jan. 1, deciding it would be a fun activity to ring in 2017.

“This is a really neat chance to enjoy a beautiful site and something that is truly a slice of Canadiana,” said Mikkelson. “We need more sites like this.”
