Marineland and its owner John Holer have ramped up the legal machine, filing defamation suits against a pair of news publications.
On the heels of a $600,000 suit being filed in Ontario Superior Court against the online Digital Journal, the park has filed suit against Vancouver publication The Georgia Straight. As with the action involving the Digital Journal, the suit against the Straight is seeking $600,000 — $500,000 for what the park says is defamation and an additional $100,000 in punitive damages.
