Still powerful: Niagara Falls may have lost some luster, but you’ll get misty nonetheless

From the Columbus Dispatch:

Mother Nature still rules at Niagara, although her crown has lost some luster.

The Niagara of today is far different from the Niagara encountered by the first European explorers.

The parking is a lot trickier, for one. And the food is better now, for the most part.

The falls also flow with much less power…

Did I mention that the accommodations are also better today than in 1604, when the French explorer Samuel de Champlain may first have encountered Niagara?

No, the falls aren’t what they once were. Decrying the commercialism of today’s Niagara and bemoaning the lost wilderness is easy. But any equation should also include the electricity generated, the commerce produced and the sheer human pleasure accrued by millions of visitors each year.
