Tightrope walker Nik Wallenda’s plan to conquer Niagara Falls

From the Toronto Star:

Wallenda can’t afford to make a similar stumble this Friday during his highest-profile act yet: walking 550 metres across Niagara Falls, on a wire 60 metres above the gorge.

“This is unique because it’s the longest unsupported or unstabilized cable that anyone’s put up in the history of wire-walking,” Wallenda says.

And if the much-publicized stunt is a success, he’ll also be the first person to cross right over the falls.

A number of daredevils have walked across the gorge further downstream, but no one has gone directly above the falls themselves. It has been more than 100 years since anyone has even attempted a crossing.

  1. If you see Cochrane walk (who will be walking all summer long between Hilton and Skylon), his rope is tethered every so often. I heard that because Wallenda can’t do this over the Falls, he rope will significantly sag, sway side to side, bounce up and down and even will twist, plus it will be wet, maybe it is a good thing he’ll be wearing a harness.

I just wonder how he will be lit up, it will be at 10pm.

  2. I’m going to Niagara Falls in July and cannot wait to see Jay. Who is the REAL wire walker and not some celebrity like Nik is. Jay is the a guy who does this all the time and not like Nik who waits for sponserships and tv stations to make money off him.

Jay is truly the one who should’ve walked across the falls.

  3. I hope Nik falls cause he shouldn’t even be allowed to cross when Jay has asked way before Nik.

I won’t be watching it but I hope he does fall.
