GTA casino would be ‘devastating’

From Niagara This Week:

A Toronto casino would be a gamble for the province if it moves ahead without an impact study is not completed first, Niagara Falls Mayor Jim Diodati said Monday.

Diodati was reacting to the news that the OLG plans to open a gaming facility in Toronto as a part of a plan to revamp the provincial agency’s business.

It is feared that a Toronto facility will adversely impact business at Niagara Falls’ two casinos — the Fallsview Casino Rsort and Casino Niagara.

  1. Have they studied the Montreal Casino, because if they did they’d realize it’s a mistake. It’s totally dead. But it is something Montreal has that Toronto doesn’t so they want it. This OLG guy is the former Municipal Chair to Toronto, so you can see his motives. This doesn’t make sense at all. Unless you realize the motive for closing the racetrack slots is so they don’t have to a portion of the proceeds to horse racing. That’s 345million $. And Toronto is a black hole at the centre of their own universe.

  2. This is gonna gut our last remaining casino which will be Fallsview after they close Niagara. Most of a our business we have left comes from Toronto which means there will be no need for them to come here to gamble with a newer bigger casino in their own backyard! Once this happens the domino effect will hit within Niagara such as cancelled projects, layoffs & property values being affected. I can almost guarantee the massive Zappitelli plan for Loretto (3 massive condo/hotel towers) that is in the final stages of approval will not be scrapped because of this news! 🙁
