Gas leak forces Clifton Hill evacuation

Businesses on Clifton Hill in Niagara Falls had to be shut down and buildings evacuated after a four-inch natural gas line was severed by construction workers Thursday afternoon.

Firefighters, police and paramedics were called to the scene at about 4:15 p.m., and began to shut down the area to all vehicle and pedestrian traffic because of safety concerns.

“We have to keep the area clear. With something like this you always have a concern that gas could be leaking into one of the buildings,” said Doug Mann, platoon chief with the Niagara Falls Fire Department.

  1. I wonder how it effected the hotels. Boy, imagine your vacation being ruined by something like this.

    1. Apparently the closed business were around where the accident happened, so it did not affect the entire street. And things were closed for 4 hours, so it wasn’t that bad. It certainly could have been much worse.
