The King speechless in Niagara

From the Niagara Falls Review:

All the talk is about The King’s Speech to win best picture at Sunday’s Academy Awards, but George VI wasn’t very chatty himself during his 1939 visit to Niagara Falls. It was the last stop on a 23-day royal tour, the first time a reigning monarch set foot in Canada.

June 7, 1939, was a day Niagara Falls resident Joan Brown said she’ll never forget. She was a seven-year-old Grade 2 student when her classmates were chosen to stand in front of the General Brock hotel to see the arrival of the King George VI and Queen Elizabeth, later known as the Queen Mother.
