Free parking, festivals for downtown

From the Niagara Falls Review:

Two-hour free parking and 10 weeks of weekend festivals are the keys to this summer’s plan to generate activity in downtown Niagara Falls.

The Downtown Business Improvement Area board asked city council to use $250,000 of city money to help it run special events this summer, to cover the cost of free parking along Queen St., and to install fibre optic cable.

That money should come from the $940,000 in a reserve fund that was earmarked for the city’s Community Improvement Plan, a program created to fund beautification projects and a program of grants and loans aimed at getting property owners to improve the appearance of their buildings.
