Fixing the trip to the glen, step by step

From the Niagara Falls Review:

Hikers and anglers should find it easier and safer to get to the Whirlpool area, thanks to a group of volunteers who installed new stairs on the steepest part of the trail.

More than two dozen volunteers lent their hands to put in place 70 new stairs, making a safer descent to the Niagara River Whirlpool, a popular spot for fishing and hiking.

The work was a partnership between the Niagara Parks Commission and several community groups, including the city’s trails and bikeways committee, some firefighters and high school students.

“In 2008, the trail was almost impassable up there,” said Lisa Wilson, chairwoman of the city’s trails and bikeways committee.

The top of the staircase is near a parking area, across from the Whirlpool golf course.
