From the Niagara Falls Review:

After raising the prospect that Greg Sorbara would ride to the rescue of Ontario’s tourism industry, now’s the time for the provincial Liberal government to put its money where its mouth is.

Ontario Finance Minister Dwight Duncan is scheduled to bring down the province’s 2009-10 budget on Thursday. No doubt it’s going to be bleak news. Ontario’s deficit could be as high as $13 billion, according to some forecasts.

There’s intense pressure on the Premier Dalton McGunity’s team to do something – anything – to save manufacturing jobs, especially in the sinking auto sector. Duncan is going to announce $27.5 billion over two years for roads, highways and schools as well as a $1.3-billion bailout for the auto sector.

It’s a tough time to hit up the provincial taxpayers to bolster tourism, which is, erroneously, still considered to be a bit of a frill.
