From the Niagara Gazette:

A frustrated Mayor Paul Dyster said Monday he’s lost patience with state officials’ lack of interest in local plans to remove sections of the Robert Moses Parkway and believes it is now time for the city to take the matter into its own hands.

During his regular update with members of the press at City Hall, Dyster expressed disappointment over the lack of attention to the parkway situation from the Office of State Parks and the Department of Transportation. He said he now intends to approach the City Council with a request for funding that would allow the city to examine the possibility of developing an alternate route to the parkway on Whirlpool Street.

“The city is just going to move forward, with or without them,” Dyster said.

One Comment to “Mayor says city prepared to go it alone on removal effort”

Interesting proposal, but before anyone gets too excited over removing that section of the parkway, they should FIRST come up with an alternate route from Downtown Niagara falls (US side) to Lewiston. While the American side of the falls is a mess, take a 10 minute ride to Lewiston and you actually have nice places to eat, Artpark, and summer festivals. Either move the parkway away from the falls, or get a dedicated bus/train/trolly route from NF to Lewiston before you just remove the parkway.
