From the Niagara Falls Review:
Unless the provincial government clearly defines how it wants the Niagara Parks Commission to re-examine its lease with the Maid of the Mist Steamboat Co., it will be hard to avoid a simple rehashing of the deal that already exists, says Niagara Falls MPP Kim Craitor.
“We have an expectation it’s going to be looked at in a different way since it’s being sent back,” Craitor said.
Ontario Tourism Minister Monique Smith told the parks commission Monday to review the process it used to award the Maid of the Mist a 25-year lease extension to use parks land for its Canadian operation. Commissioners approved it by a 9-2 vote in April 2008. The lease has been awaiting cabinet approval since then.
