Ever since the casinos opened, the number of restaurants has exploded! It seems like every year there is another new, big, brand-name restaurant opening up. Both casinos have them. All the main streets have them. Some chains even have a couple of restaurants within a couple of minutes from each other. As I’m sure many of you have, I’ve often wondered how all of them can stay open, but you almost never see one close. When people go on vacation, they like to eat, and they like to eat out.

In this area, compared to Disney/Orlando, Niagara Falls also holds its own. Disney has some great restaurants, as well as lots of snack bars. Some things are incredibly expensive. Other things seem reasonable. It just depends on what you want. However, there was one restaurant that just blew my mind. I wish Niagara Falls had one.

In Downtown Disney (an awesome shopping area that is separate from Magic Kingdom) had a restaurant called T-Rex Cafe. It was a gigantic place, with dozens of animatronic dinosaurs. The restaurant was divided into various sections, all with different themes. We sat in the sea section. There were giant aquariums, lights that looked like various fish and a huge squid that moved its tentacles above the bar. Every 20 minutes the restaurant came alive. The dinosaurs would roar, move their heads and tails, and the lights would change. The Ice Age area changed from an icy blue to a lava red as if it was melting. Very cool! Niagara Falls has some fun restaurants, but nothing compared to that.

Outside of Disney, the restaurant selection is pretty much like any other major tourist destination (Niagara Falls included). There are upper-scale restaurants, family restaurants, big chains, and “Mom & Pop” places. We went to a pizza buffet that had pizza and dessert for $6.99 a person. We also went to a place called Joe’s Crab Shack that was kind of expensive.

Anyway, when it comes to restaurants, with The Keg, Boston Pizza, Planet Hollywood, Hardrock Cafe, East Side Marios, Kelsey’s, Montanas, TGI Friday’s, Canyon Creek Chophouse, The Watermark and more, Niagara Falls definitely does hold its own.
