From the Niagara Falls Review:
Swapping the Maid of the Mist for a newcomer would cause at least a five-year disruption in service the historic boat-tour operator has provided in Niagara Falls for more than 160 years, a company vice-president says.
“Replacing our boats with a new fleet… is a process that would literally take years to complete,” Maid of the Mist marketing vice-president Tim Ruddy wrote in a recent letter to Ontario Tourism Minister Monique Smith. A copy of the letter was obtained by The Review.
It’s a sign the Maid of the Mist company is fighting back against its critics who are trying to undo its arrangement with the Niagara Parks Commission.

This article contains a significant amount of false information, and the writer, Corey Larocque failed to publish information that I provided to him.

Fascinating stuff! It will be interesting to see where it all ends up…
Hi Bill,
There was abundance of info on the webpage provided. What company are you representing? I couldn’t seem to find it.
Dan, according to the article, he is Alcatraz Media, Inc./Reserve123, based in Georgia, which says that it is the largest supplier of online tours in the world, with over 10,000 available (including Niagara Falls). It would appear to be a re-seller, much like Expedia or even Ticketmaster, but seems to be a legitimate and successful company.
As much as I love living here, the one thing I have learned rather quickly is that some things here are mysteriously clouded in secrecy, and getting information through a completely constitutional process is impossible. I only hope that the outcome is awarded through a legal and fair assessment, as all things should be. And that this becomes an even stronger attraction because of this procedure. Good Luck to all those involved!
Thanks Drafty. I’m not familiar with Alcatraz. I would imagine Ripley’s would be very interested with all the attractions they already have plus a tentatively planned aquarium. Imagine the vacation packages they would be able to create.
My only thing is I would want the name “Maid of the Mist” to stay, Would a different company be able to purchase the name?
Mr. Windsor states on his site that should another company win the right to operate tour boats in the river, the logical thing to happen would be for the present company to sell their boats, buildings, etc. to the new company. I would assume the same would apply to the name, although I imagine some bitterness may prevent that, and there would be a new name.
I think it’s time for the people of Niagara Falls, Ontario & NY to have the doors and windows opened on the old secretive dealings. If there is nothing going on wrong, then why does the NPC protest so loudly? Open up the bidding and see where it goes. Why are they so belligerant..shouldn’t they want this to go the highest and best bidders?
When I hear someone say or act as if they can’t be replaced, like Maid of the Mist is saying, it strikes me very much like a bully beating his chest and trying to warn people away, more than anything else! Rarely is anything irreplaceable in this world expect the people we love! Buildings are replaceable, boats are replaceable, cars and buses are replaceable..things change. They can be improved. It is what the world and business is all about.
