From the Niagara Falls Review:
The first time Riley Schillaci stuck a sharp metal object down her throat was fine.
The second time … not so good.
“I went to show my friend -I was 14 and we had been pigging out on candy all night,” recalls the Rochester, N. Y. resident. “So at that point I wretched! I was just full of sugar.”…
Now one of the few female members of Sword Swallowers Association International, Schillaci heads to the Ripley’s Believe It or Not Museum on Clifton Hill today to ply her trade. To mark International Sword Swallowers Awareness Day, swallowers at several Ripley’s museums throughout the world will slide steel down the hatch at exactly 2:28 p. m. (being Feb. 28 and all).
Tim Parker, manager of the Niagara Falls museum, says sword swallowing and Ripley’s share a long history.
