From the Niagara Falls Review:
It’s been one thing after another, says Niagara Falls Mayor Ted Salci.
First came the 9/11 terror attacks of 2001 that kept Americans at home. Then there was SARS. Finally there were new U. S. regulations that will soon require passport identification for people crossing the border into that country.
While he says tourism is “not bad” in his iconic city, he admits it could be better.
Where once the city looked south for tourism, now they’re looking for home-grown business. There are five new hotels in the works, as well as a $100-million convention centre and a 53-storey addition to the Hilton.
“The GTA has been the salvation of many of our businesses,” Salci said.
