As was pointed out yesterday, apparently the Westin Fallsview is slated to open in February 2011. This is the “Jolley Cut” hotel that would be by the Skylon Tower and that will be built by Canadian Niagara Hotels. For those who have been following the blog for a long time, might remember I posted about this in December 2005. I had found an ad for the hotel that said it was going to open in January 2008.
Well, it is now almost December 2008 and a shovel hasn’t gone in the ground yet, and I can’t imagine one will go in for at least another 6 months. I would think that the February 2001 date will come and go just as the January 2008 date did.
For those who are curious, the February 2011 date can be found here:

It seems more places then Marineland are having trouble opening anything on time. For both places its now over 5 years since the annoucemnts have been made for them. Any word on the Aqaurium at all?
I don’t see them doing any work with the economy the way it is. It is hard to get credit and i imagine it will take alot. i don’t see the shovles hitting the gorund until the economy is better.
Isn’t this the one that is supposed to be the first 5-star hotel in the Falls? I do hope they build it but I am sure as Smoke mentioned it’s not gonna happen until things with the economy straighten out somewhat first.
On top of that Canadian Niagara Hotels has too many proposals on their plate. Rainbow Tower Hotel (to be the tallest hotel in Canada), Westin Fallsview, and Hyatt Place Hotel, not to mention an arcade that lost the Marvel name and needs some rebranding/renovating and all the updates they do on their huge property. They need to focus on one thing and go from there.
I’m still fascinated with the bizarre scale and perspective of this concept drawing. The Skylon Tower is some 520 feet from base to tip, and this hotel is nearly twice it’s size in this image, not to mention that the Skylon in the background is transparent for some reason. Given the size of the lot that this hotel is to go on, I can’t imagine it looking anything like this.
Funny Adam! I hadn’t noticed the transparent Skylon Tower before
