From the Niagara Falls Review:

A piece of Clifton Hill’s past will come down this fall, in order to make way for the future.

The Quality Inn, which dates back to the latter half of the 1950s, has a date with the wrecking ball later this year. It hosted its final guests over the Thanksgiving Day weekend.

“It was a hotel built in the ’50s -a very spread-out, meandering property,” Oakes said of the 250-room motor hotel. “It wasn’t really built to today’s standards and takes up a lot of property.

Although one wing was shut down after Labour Day and its contents given away to charities, guests were welcome until Thanksgiving Day, when the doors were locked for a final time.

“The plan has always been to develop the Quality Inn property,” Oakes said. “We always thought there was a better use of the site.”

That better use includes plans revealed in 2005, which included roller coasters, two water parks and a ferris wheel on Clifton Hill.

It’s the next phase of Hoco’s plan to develop the “festive atmosphere” on Clifton Hill.

festive atmosphere…sounds terrific…it’s my kinda place…as long as they don’t raise the hotel prices at the comfort inn SO high that it becomes the UNCOMFORTABLE inn….but…i do have faith in harry oakes…he’s a smart man who usually seems to kinda cater to the average joe…i hope he never changes….and i am excited about what he’s gonna do next….btw..off topic….ever since i saw the sign laying on the ground by the old masterhost the first time…and now that graham has gotta pic of it ON the building…it’s bugging the hell outta me cuz i KNOW this shaped sign from somewhere!!!!….it’s driving me nuts where i’ve seen it…i even google’d restaurant signs..but to no avail….anybody else notice this?

I am with you Sue, my only concern is the Comfort prices spiking. I’ve got to imagine that will happen because the money has to be made up somewhere?

I hope the roller coasters come alive with the death of the quality inn.

I would want to think that because they are thinking for the future they have planned for revenue loss. I think they will keep rates at the Comfort in Competitive near what they are now charging. This will keep returning guests. They will want to compete with Travelodge/Thriftlodge across the street as in their rates etc. Combo passes etc. If anything if they do not start building something they can increase the parking lot for temp basis and make some money parking until the new construction starts.
