International motor speedway complex announced for Fort Erie

From the Niagara Falls Review:

A $200-million foreign investment is being made to bring in a major motor-sport speedway, entertainment and commercial complex to Fort Erie.

“It’s on the road to being a done deal,” Fort Erie Mayor Doug Martin announced during a press conference at city hall on Tuesday afternoon.

The investment consortium is led by Kuwaiti Islamic investment bank Bayt Al Mal Investments.

Oh wow they even upped the investment and leave open the possibility of increasing the seat count to 100,000 seats which is incredible and I love the fact that there will be more than just auto sports at this facility this is exciting and massively beneficial news for the whole region!

And for the naysayers NASCAR Sprint Cup will eventually come to this facility because they badly want & need to tap into a new market and the Canadian market especially in this area is HUGE and will be a boon for their brand this is why after all they are doing this facility!

This will also help the NASCAR Canadian Tire brand by leaps and bounds and bring an American audience to our own home grown version of NASCAR. I expect it should be about 2-3 years after the facility opens before we have Sprint Cup but we will get it!

I still wish it was going to be on Sodom Rd but hey what’s a few more kilometers lol!

Well the bad economy seems to be defying the odds when it comes to major announcements and developments in Niagara I am so happy so much cool, exciting and much needed attractions/developments are coming our way within the next 5 years and it all should put us back on track when it comes to tourism!!! =)

Could you imagine 100,000 people in one area. The entire Niagara Region has just over 400,000 people LIVING in it, just imagine the traffic. Good thing I almost never go past Lundy’s Lane toward Fort Erie. Good for Fort Erie, they really need some good news with the horsetrack’s future in question.

StEC where will they get the date to have this race? Will Bruton Smith and SMI give up one of there dates or will the Frances and ISC give up a date? NO WAY!!! Bruton had to buy North Wilkesboro Speedway just to get dates for his other tracks.

This market is already served by Michigan and Watkins Glen. NASCAR will rather get into the New York Market first.

  4. 4 Reality check

Lets start a pool right now to see how much this group asks the regional and prvincial governments for. I say 75 million. It must be big as they have already started the selling campaign with all of the proposed benefits despite the fact that they have no backing from any major racing group (ie Nascar). Despite Nascar’s denial, this group keeps saying that Nascar is going to come - wink wink. By the way, Nascar does get involved with specific tracks when they really want to target a specific area. (ie Staten Island which failed) )
With the Region predicting a shortfall of 680 million, how much do you think will be available for them - by the way I am a die hard race fan but I have seen this side show far too often from our local politicians

To be honest I couldn’t care less about “Nascar” or oval racing in general.

I am a big fan of road racing, and hope the road course is built completely separately from the oval. This will allow both courses to be used at the same time. It will also make for a better road course. To me there is no bigger waste of asphalt than a road course built in the middle of an oval.
