A piece of Clifton Hill’s past will come down this fall, in order to make way for the future.
The Quality Inn, which dates back to the latter half of the 1950s, has a date with the wrecking ball later this year, after hosting its final guests over the upcoming Thanksgiving/Columbus Day weekend.
“It was a hotel built in the ‘50s; a very spread-out, meandering property,” Oakes said of the 250-room motor hotel. “It takes up a lot of property and we always thought there was a better use of the site.”
That better use includes plans revealed in 2005, which included roller coasters, two water parks and the SkyWheel, which opened in 2006.
“Initially, we’re expanding our entertainment facilities,” said Harry Oakes, president of Hoco Entertainment and Resorts. “We’ll expand the Great Canadian Midway and around the SkyWheel and down the line, there’s potential for a new hotel.”
This was put up on the Review web site on Tuesday and is only a preview of what was supposed to be in the paper on Wednesday. I don’t know if it made it into the paper or not, but it never made it online.

my granddaughter and i stayed there the last time we..well..stayed at the falls…it was just back in april….she liked it cuz we could lay in bed and see the wheel go round..and round..and round….hey…she was only 2…lol…still..it was hard to see golden griddle and the front desk go years ago…even HARDER to see the masterhost go..(but that’s another story…)..this’ll be a little harder to see it go….ya..progress…but if harry does what he says he’s gonna do…expand the midway??….WOOOOHOOO!!..that’s awesome fer sure!!!!
