From the Niagara Falls Review:
“My instructions are pretty simple – get a deal.” Premier Dalton McGuinty, October 2007
Ayear later there is still no deal to ensure the long-term survival of Casino Niagara and people are starting to talk. Merchants in the area want assurances the casino will continue to operate. It’s important to their livelihood. The city wants to know, too – and to be made aware if Ontario Lottery and Gaming is looking for another site to work out of. Canadian Niagara Hotels would also like to know what’s happening – it owns the Casino Niagara property, and leases it to the OLG.
So, if they all want a deal done for the casino, as does Premier McGuinty, the question remains: What is the plan for Casino Niagara?

Don’t mean to hijack the blog or anything, but there is news from the US side of things, apparently Smokin’ Joe Anderson is trying to open a snowboarding and snowtubing attraction in Niagara Falls:

As long as we’re hikacking…
A story in the Buffalo News about the new Hilton now being the tallest building on the Niagara River (http://www.buffalonews.com:80/.....56748.html), is this:
“The DiCienzos plan to build the Rainbow Hotel, a 59-story hotel on Falls Avenue, next to the Hard Rock Cafe. Construction is scheduled to start next year.”
I was surprised to see that. I thought it had been shelved.
Sara, good find. I’ll post about it tomorrow.
Drafty, yes, I saw that as well. I’ll post it as well tomorrow.
Actually Sara, I might not be able to post it until later in the week, but thanks for the link!
What I have heard before Drafty, is the Rainbow Tower has never been shelved, it has always been waiting for approval of a new lease for Casino Niagara or that it may be reduced in height?
It doesn’t matter when its posted, the article wasn’t real clear on an opening date (it just said december, is that this year or next lol), I am not sure how long it takes to set these sort of things up but this December seems like a bit of a stretch.
Sara, it sounds like it’s just a scoffold type of structure, with the artificial ice blow onto it, so it could probably be constructed fairly quickly. Good for him for at least trying something.
Is Mr.DiCienzos also the woner of the Hilton or am I thinking of someelse. Does he also own the Sherton/Crowne Plaza?
The DiCosimo family owns Hospitality Motels Ltd. (the Hilton, the Hampton and Days Inns on River Rd.). The DiCienzos own Canadian Niagara Hotels (Sheraton, Crowne Plaza, Skyline, Casino Niagara, Planet Hollywood, Rainforest, etc.) as well as the Days Inn in NFNY.
Thanks for the info. I realloy enjoyed all of the Hospitality Motels Ltd and the Frontiers.
THose names can get confused wasily.
Something that can be constructed fairly cheap and is cheap to keep up is what is needed here, residents of the falls really can’t afford to pay more than $5-10 per person to use this attraction so even if its not the most fancy, high quality thing in the world as long as its safe and provides some fun for families it will be well received here. If its high priced like 20-25$ per person to use the attraction it will fail in less time than it would take to build the attraction.
