ya..i know…sorry guys..but when i hear news…i dunno how to get it on here pronto!!..lol…so …now…TOTALLY off this subject….i just happened by a tv show on channel 2 (on your side) called niagara falls..tale of 2 cities…it was only 30 minutes..but very informative…wow..they had both mayors..mayor ted salci on this side said that construction and development is thriving on the canada side..apparently we have 5 times the number of hotels..and 6 new ones are slated for the area..the mayor of the US side said there is nothing but roadblocks..they showed some of the US side…WOW…ghost town fer sure…even their tourist information center has been CLOSED down..they even hadda live chat at the end of the show to talk to some city officials..altho they didn’t say which NF side it was for….(www.niagaravoice.com) ….they did mention the vice president of disney has visited to try and help the US side with a themepark..(at least that’s what i thought he was there for.)…but it was a very good show..and all these poeple that say tourism is down on the canada side??…then they BETTER take a GOOD look at this show…we have 300% more tourism than the US does…anyhow…good show..maybe it’ll be on again so you all can see it..very informative..
    just my 2 cents worth

Niagara Voice has been a few times in the last month. This show was mainly for the US side and how to improve it. If I remeber correctly they want to have a ride like Niagara Fury but bigger.

I wasn’t impress with the documentary. One excuse was that the reason why they don’t have overnight tourist is that because there hotel rooms are sold out every night. That they are trying to renovate there rooms. Also they are building a airport in hoping to get tour groups. (I think they will land on the US side and stay on the US Side.)

The reason they don’t have the tourist numbers is for one reason: There really isn’t that much to do. The Canadian side has a better view of the falls, better hotels, more to do for the family, hotels for any budget and the DMF tax. The US side will never be a toursit site IMO.

There are people downtown on the US side if you go there in the summer but there REALLY is nothing for them to do now, we don’t even have 1 arcade. Most of the people we see are walking around the falls. There is nothing for the family except the hard rock, the falls and a wax museum and a couple seedy looking and rather smelly tourist centers. There is no where to stash your kids while adults are at the casino, so they end up running around the lobby. You can only entertain yourself by looking at the waterfalls for so long. They do have a pathetic miniature golf course, a DJ and a few vendor carts trying to peddle food and merchandise but thats about it. I do think the true nature of the US side has to get out though, people think its all rosy here when in reality its just a run down tourist town. Its even more rundown now that the balloon ride is gone (its pretty much just an empty field of grass). The former turtle building is just closed and standing there, along with many other closed storefronts in that area. I saw the special as well.

Also don’t forget that many businesses have closed up in the falls, I would say the closing of Teletech was HUGE here (and this was very recent), there were tons of people employed there since it was basically the only place to go and get a job outside of retail (if you can even find a store that is hiring that is) if you didn’t want to relocate. These displaced people simply have no where to go but out, cause theres a fat chance they will be able to find another job here. GMR stated that the average salary of someone living in Niagara Falls is around 27k.

Clifton hill looks like paradise (even when shake and bake was there, lol!) and even if some people call it junky and touristy compared to the US side!
